When do early application results get released?

All early applicants will be hearing from us around early September.

What is the difference between early and regular applications?

Early applications are due earlier (by August 1st at 11:59 PM ET). Early applicants hear back from us sooner and pay a 50% discounted application fee. Other than that, they are the same!

How competitive is the application for HSRC?

Competitive but not ridiculously competitive. We’re looking for students who participate in science extracurricular activities, demonstrate an active willingness to learn, or have a special passion for the sciences. The goal of HSRC is to open you up to new opportunities so that moving forward, you can become more involved with scientific research.

Do I need prior research experience?

Not at all! HSRC is for students with research experience and students without research experience alike. All that you need is an open mind, a sincere passion for science, and a genuine desire to learn. You will also, notably, not be disadvantaged in the application process in any way if you have not had prior research experience.

How does the application process work?

The application is very simple- you can find the form under “Apply.” It only involves some providing some personal information, a two short answer responses that you can answer in a few paragraphs, an uploaded transcript (it can be unofficial) or report card, and a short list of activities and awards. You’re also welcome to provide any research that you’ve done in the past.

Regular applications are due September 17th at 11:59PM.

How much does HSRC cost?

Although we try very hard to make HSRC as inclusive as possible, the economic reality is that it costs money to run a conference where we bring in Harvard professors, researchers, and students for two days. The conference itself has a participation fee of $150, and the early application fee is $20. All participants will be provided with free lunch on both days.

How do I get to Harvard University?

All events will occur at the Student Organization Center at Hilles (SOCH) at Harvard University. The address is the following:

59 Shephard Street, Cambridge, MA

Participants will be expected to coordinate their own transportation to the conference.

I don’t live in the Boston/Cambridge area. Where should I stay on Saturday evening to attend HSRC 2018?

We suggest that participants attending HSRC from outside the Greater Boston Area can come with their parents and arrange accommodation accordingly. If this is not possible, parents should help reserve accommodation in advance.

If you have any other questions, please email us at

Is HSRC only for students?

Yes, HSRC is a conference exclusively dedicated to students.

What is the dress code for the conference?

Please be dressed in business casual.
